Primary & Secondary School Admissions

Primary and Secondary School Admissions for September 2020

Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child.  You may wish to obtain as much information as you can about them. This will give you a better idea of which schools might suit your child best.  For example, you might like to:

  • Visit the schools - by making appointments with the schools that you are interested in.  Secondary schools also host open events, details of which are included in the Education in Hartlepool Booklet
  • Read the schools' most recent Ofsted reports.
  • Read the schools' prospectuses.

Hartlepool schools are very popular and it is not always possible to offer you the place you want for your child. When there are more applications than places available, we need a process to decide which children get a place.  These arrangements must be fair and follow the requirements of School Admissions Code.  Please refer to the school admissions criteria found within this booklet for more information on the schools you are interested in.

In Year School Admissions (Transfers)

Hartlepool Council Admissions Team co-ordinate in year admissions for all primary and secondary schools within the town.  An in year admission is when a parent wishes to apply for a place at a school that is not during normal rounds of entry (eg Reception – starting primary school or Year 7 – moving from primary to secondary school).  Should you wish to apply to transfer to our school, please complete and return a form which can be found by clicking on the following link  :

Admissions to Year 7 (Moving On to Secondary School)

At the beginning of September 2019 the Admissions Team will visit all mainstream primary schools within the Borough of Hartlepool to talk to Year 6 pupils about moving up to secondary school.  During the visit, application letters will be given to all pupils in Year 6.  If your child is absent, or doesn't attend a mainstream school in Hartlepool, you will receive their letter by post.

The application period is between 1st September 2019 and 31st October 2019.  You can make your application on-line during this period*.  Before you submit your application, please read the Education in Hartlepool Booklet - 2017/2018 carefully.  The booklet provides information on the admissions process, key dates and lots of information which you may find useful.

To secure your child's place at secondary school, you must submit your application (along with any supporting documents such as a baptism certificate) by 31st October 2016.  If your application is received after this deadline, we will treat it as late and deal with it after the applications which were received on time.

If you require any further information on moving on to secondary school, please contact the School Admissions Team on 01429 523768 or e-mail: admissionsteam@hartlepool.gov.uk
