Welcome to Year 3 (Class 5)
Mrs Hollingsworth is the class teacher and Miss Bateman works with us on a and Thursday. In our first year in Key Stage 2 we will become confident, independent learners who love to learn and share our experiences.
In Year 3, we have a positive learning attitude and work hard to achieve our personal goals and targets. We all try to make the right 'CHOICES' and give 100% in everything we do.
|Our classroom is set up to allow all children to learn to the best of their abilities.||We love reading in Year 3. We are very lucky to have lots of wonderful reading books all about our foundation subject topics.||To help us with our learning we have lots of learning displays with must know facts and visual resources we can look at.||We learn about lots of interesting things in Year 3 and display our learning because we are always very proud of it.|
Topics Over Year
In English we will cover lots of genres of writing:
Traditional tales, Newspaper Articles, Myths and Legends, Letters, Adventure Stories, Adverts, Stories with Imaginary Worlds, Reports, Instructions and Poetry. We will read lots of these types of texts and write our own.
This year in Maths we will cover:
Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Money, Statistics, Length and Perimeter, Fractions, Time, Properties of Shape and Mass and Capacity.
We will focus on securing our knowledge of the 3,4, and 8 times table.
What we have been up to...
We loved visiting Summerhill as part of our work on the Stone Age. We followed clues to find out more about Stone Age people, built our own dens and even practised making fire the Stone Age way!
Our Trip to Locomotion
We visited Locomotion in Shildon to enhance our learning on Railways in History. We enjoyed learning about how a Steam Train journey would take place and looking at the Royal Train. We definitely would all like to travel on that train.
Music Spring Term 2
We were really lucky to have Grace join us for 3 sessions. We got to experiment with and play lots of different instruments. We went to Summerhill and used Grace's recording equipment to record nature sounds we could here. It was very interesting and made us think carefully about the sounds we hear in every day life.
RE - Sikhism
We really enjoyed our block of RE learning all about The Sikh Gurdwara and the Langar Feast. We spent lots of time thinking about what the rules for visiting the Gurdwara were. Why they are so important to Sikhs and what the Langar Feast is. Our favourite part was the eating food activity. Even if it was a bit spicy for some of us!
Things you can support your child with this half term
Reading Daily - Read with your child, to your child, listen to them read. Talk to them about books and which ones you enjoyed most when you were little.
Times Tables - In Year 3 we are working really hard to get better at recalling facts for our 2,5,10,3,4 and 8 times tables, Play games and quick fire quizzes to help your child with their speed and knowledge.
Handwriting -Ask your child to write a card or a thank you in their neatest handwriting. It really will make all the difference.
